Mission Statement
The TamCam Fund provides workshop training and equipment to young documentary filmmakers. With just a basic understanding of the filmmaking process, passionate young filmmakers can begin telling the stories that are important to them and their communities.
Focused on underserved communities, and by coordinating with after school programs, libraries, community centers, youth groups and summer camps, the TamCam Fund will educate young filmmakers on how to tell their story with a variety of everyday resources available to them. From camera phones, to still photographs and existing online media, the greatest challenge of all is not acquiring content, but understanding the craft of storytelling. And for those that do not have access to equipment, the TamCam Fund will do all it can to put a camera and video editing tools in a young filmmaker's hands.
The TamCam Fund believes that making a film leads to personal growth for the filmmaker and contributes to community building by creating shared experience. While the TamCam Fund will provide resources and mentorship to young filmmakers, it will be the student filmmakers who will become the true mentors, as they will create content that is close to their hearts, and teach us through their films.
DREAMing Uphill was made without a budget, and it has managed to touch the hearts of many and raise awareness about immigration issues. Keeping this in mind, we believe that the most valuable element in making a film is passion, and that is something young people have in abundance. The TamCam Fund will give those young people the skills they need to make the content they can pour their passion into.
