Tam Tran, 1982-2010
Tam picked up a camera.
That is how she decided to respond to her predicament of being marginalized in a broken immigration system. She decided to speak through the stories of those like her, and through her work, created venues for others to discuss the issue that was important to her. Her work also led to her own success as an activist, as it resulted in her testimony before a Congressional panel on immigration reform.
For those of us that knew her, she was much more than just an activist filmmaker. She was loved for being her own brand of fun, sweet, cool, modest and insightful. A beautiful girl who was always positive regardless of the circumstance. A wonderful daughter, sister, and friend loved by many.
The TamCam Fund will show those with a spirit like Tam's how to express themselves with cameras and get their stories out.
